Extern, intern, outtern, uptern
I find myself frequently having to explain that I haven't actually graduated yet. Groove U is a 2-year program, but it's actually kind of 2 1/3 years, since you have to spend the summer doing internships in professional environments, and you have to log at least 100 hours.
I don't think I'll struggle too much to hit 100 hours this year, though. These are the internships that I know for sure that I'm receiving credit for:
The Columbus Dispatch - Window on the World concert series
I'm running sound for the Dispatch's live and broadcasted concert that they on Fridays throughout the summer. You can tune in on their Facebook page on Fridays at noon.
Oranjudio
Both a fellow Groove U student as well as myself are interning at Oranjudio in Grandview. Oranjudio is a professional recording studio run by Joey Gurwin, and my first session there will be later this month. Being present for recording and mixing sessions last year was the most beneficial thing that I did for last year's internship at Vaughan Music Studios, so I'm really looking forward to these sessions.
The Columbus Arts Festival
I attended a couple meetings, and spent a couple rather long days running sound for the Groove U stage at CAF last weekend, and I gotta say, except for a couple people complaining about the loudness (why do people bother the engineer about this??), the whole weekend went REALLY WELL. The last band actually flattered me pretty solid because they were one of the hardest bands I've ever had to mix, and they were all "That sounded pretty great."

Elastic Forces
I have been working with a Mid-Ohio Film Association team called Elastic Forces, doing location and post audio on short films. I worked on a film called Something More last March for the Winterfilm contest, which was recently screened, and we have a 48-hour film project coming up in late July. Fun (stressful) Stuff!
In the Record Store
Some friendly fellows in Columbus who like vinyl run a music podcast. I helped them get comfortable in their new recording location in Groove U, but I guess they bothered Groove U so much that Groove U moved out of its own building. This summer I'm doing some editing work for them, prepping old episodes of the podcast for radio play. These guys are a blast to hang out with, so I glad I can give them a hand.
